Solo Travel and Group Travel have their own perks. The main difference depends on your preference. Solo Travel is a journey alone, with the freedom to be as extroverted as you desire. Group Travel is a shared experience with friends, family, and companions.
We say “Solo”… but you’re never really alone. Solo Travelers will often bump into each other or become immersed in the local community. The term Solo just means you’re leaving home without familiar faces.
Solo Travel depends on your output. For your first experience, stay at a hostel, which is sure to be filled with like minded travelers. Hostels average $40/ night and provide tips from the local community for a cheaper, worthwhile stay. Make sure to speak with locals, learn their culture and always TRUST your gut when making decisions! Blend into a city, expand your skills, become your own photographer and join fellow hostel goers for a memorable experience. Embrace the freedom to be yourself.
Group travel is an experience shared with friends, family, partners- anyone really. There is often a planner who coordinates tours, vehicles, itinerary, rooms and meals. Group Travel seems safer, with a large party to rely upon. Though in a group, we’re expected to compromise with plans, limiting our amount of travel freedom. Group Travel is familiar but difficult to make spontaneous.
In reality, we’ll always be traveling with a group. Though Solo Travel motivations are enticing:
- Relaxation and Time to Unwind
- Break from Routine
- Explore New Cultures and Destinations
- Make Your Own Choices
- Meet New People
Over half (58%) of millennials say they have traveled alone, compared to 47% of people in older generations. The majority (86%) of people who travel solo are over 35 years of age. Giacomo Piva, CMO and Co-Founder of Radical Storage had a great breakdown of Solo Travel. “Recent data shows that 72% of American women are now choosing to go on solo trips. More than half (55%) of Google searches for ‘solo travel’ came from women, and most of which are millennials.”
